Australian seafood company, Clean Seas Seafood, has signed an agreement with Hunyan Haiyan in China to further distribute Yellowtail Kingfish in the region.
Clean Seas Seafood is the largest aquaculture producer of Yellowtail Kingfish outside of Japan.
The Kingfish are grown in South Australia’s Spencer Gulf which also supports Western King Prawn and Southern Bluefin Tuna industries.
Hunchun Haiyan has a proven seafood distribution capability with annual sales of King Crab of approximately 6000 tons.
David Head, chief executive of Clean Seas Seafood, said: “We are excited to secure a distribution partner of Hunchun Haiyan’s reputation and capability.”
“This partnership represents a material step forward in executing our international growth strategy,” he added.
The non-exclusive agreement with Hunchun Haiyan is the first in a number of planned collaborations with Asian partners.
“We are also in discussions with a number of leading food exports in Australia with existing supply channels into premium Asian seafood markets,” said Mr Head.
“We expect to formalise a number of non-exclusive distribution partnership deals across these channels over the coming 12 months,” he added.
The majority of Clean Seas’ Kingfish are sold whole and fresh. Recent innovations in rapid freezing technology and a new processing plant
in Adelaide have helped the company enter new markets.
